| "My memories of high school at St. Bede are filled with the pressure to learn geometric theorems, conjugate Latin verbs, analyze English sonnets, and dissect a fetal pig. While focusing on term papers and final exams, I did not realize that the greatest contribution that St. Bede was giving me was an appreciation of civilization and culture, and the challenge of living a meaningful life. I have carried the Benedictine ideals and values, acquired as much by osmosis as by overt training, with me through the challenges and meanderings of my life. They have sustained me and kept me focused on what is truly important. I am fortunate to serve as a priest and to serve as leader of an organization that serves those most in need in our country. As I go about my daily responsibilities, the faces of my teachers and mentors at St. Bede are never far from my mind."
