"My memories of high school at St. Bede are
filled with the pressure to learn geometric theorems, conjugate
Latin verbs, analyze English sonnets, and dissect a fetal pig.
While focusing on term papers and final exams, I did not realize
that the greatest contribution that St. Bede was giving me was
an appreciation of civilization and culture, and the challenge
of living a meaningful life. I have carried the Benedictine
ideals and values, acquired as much by osmosis as by overt
training, with me through the challenges and meanderings of my
life. They have sustained me and kept me focused on what is
truly important. I am fortunate to serve as a priest and to
serve as leader of an organization that serves those most in
need in our country. As I go about my daily responsibilities,
the faces of my teachers and mentors at St. Bede are never far
from my mind."

"I don't think you realize how special St. Bede is until you
start talking to your college roommates or co-workers about
their high school experience. Obviously, St. Bede's academics
and extra-curriculars prepared me for college and my career, but
I think it's the intangibles that you experience here that
really affect your life. Soon after starting at St. Bede, I
learned the spirit of St. Bede wasn't just a phrase. Through the
actions and interactions with faculty, staff, classmates and
alumni, you learned the traditions and history of the Academy.
You took pride in the fact that you were part of the St. Bede
family and realized that you had a responsibility to uphold
those traditions. If you weren't participating in sporting
events or musicals, you attended because everyone knew it was
important to support our classmates. Even though we didn't have
a service requirement, everyone volunteered because we knew it
was an honor to help with projects and fund-raising events. My
classmates and I took advantage of every opportunity available
to us to get the most out of our time at St. Bede and I think it
made our experience that much richer. I think it was that
experience that makes we want to continue to support St. Bede
and I think it was this culture that helped me become the person
I am today."
