Scholarships
1. Need based Tuition Assistance: administered by St. Bede Academy
We use Private School Aid Service to determine the amount of money
people can afford to pay for tuition. You can see from the form that
the information it requests is extensive. We distribute funds to
families in June. They have until early July to apply for additional
funds. If they apply they have to meet with the Superintendent and
bring financial information to justify their need for increased
assistance. 2. Mike Perona Scholarship Fund: administered by
St. Bede Academy
The family and friends of Mike Perona established the scholarship. St.
Bede Academy is not involved in the nomination of students for this
one year partial scholarship. When all nominations have been received
the Superintendent with at least two other people draws a name out of
a hat. A copy of the form that is mailed to principals is included.
3. St. Bede Scholar Program: administered by St. Bede Academy
This program was approved by the IHSA in May of 2004. It is clearly
based solely on Academics and St. Bede Academy is not involved in the
selection of the students who are eligible. Principals choose them
without consultation with St. Bede Academy. 4. Durley Boyle
Scholarship: administered by a five man committee
This scholarship is a one year scholarship that is given to two
students. The actual legal agreement for this scholarship is included.
The criterion is listed under number 5. None of the members of the
selection committee are affiliated with St. Bede or on our staff. Any
student from Putnam County is able to apply for this scholarship.
5. St. Joseph's Holy Name Society: administered by Holy Name
Society
This is a partial one year scholarship that is awarded to the incoming
freshman from Peru Catholic School System who has the highest
composite score on the Explore test which is taken by all incoming
freshmen. 6. Charles Kubera Scholarship: administered by
Mrs. Kubera and her children
The coming school year is the last year this scholarship will be
awarded directly by Mrs. Kubera who offers the scholarship in memory
of her husband. Each year she is given the name of 2-3 students from
St. Patrick's School. They are nominated by the 8th grade teacher on
the basis of academics, need and school involvement. Beginning with
the 2006-2007 school year the principal of this scholarship fund will
be given to St. Bede Academy and will be distributed to students from
any school on the basis of need. Mrs. Kubera does not consult with St.
Bede Academy in selecting the student who will receive the
scholarship. 7. Jim Lattin Scholarship: administered by
members of his family and his classmates
This one year scholarship given to a graduate of Trinity Catholic
School in LaSalle. Any students who are interested in the scholarship
are invited to write an essay. 8. Fr. Allen Memorial
Scholarship
Each local grade school principal is invited to submit the name of
one-eighth grade student who: Qualifies academically to attend St.
Bede, Exemplifies good citizenship, Participates in extra-curricular
activities, and demonstrates leadership potential. The superintendent
or principal of St. Bede, in conjunction with members of the St. Bede
Class of 1961 Scholarship Selection Committee will select the
recipient. St. Bede Scholar
The Valedictorian of each 8th grade class is offered a scholarship to
attend St. Bede. The amount awarded depends on the number of 8th Grade
Valedictorians that choose to attend St. Bede Academy. W.
Durley-Boyle Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to two St. Bede students who are
residing in Putnam County. Incoming freshmen through seniors are
eligible. Various Organizations and Churches
Many parishes, Catholic grade schools, and local organizations offer
scholarships. Please check with your home parish about scholarship
availability.
