Maintenance Assistant & Custodial Supervisor

Provides maintenance support to the Building & Grounds Team and performs custodial duties to maintain a clean, safe, and functional campus environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise building housekeeping to ensure cleanliness standards are met across all areas.

  • Perform custodial duties, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, trash removal, and restroom sanitation.

  • Help monitor building systems and report issues promptly.

  • Maintain housekeeping inventory and prepare purchase orders for ordering general housekeeping and custodial supplies.

  • Supervise custodial operations, including creating work schedules and assisting campus-wide events.

  • Assist with routine maintenance tasks and minor repairs.

  • Maintain tools and work areas in clean, organized condition.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support maintenance and custodial teams.

Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of building maintenance and custodial practices.

  • Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively.

  • Strong attention to detail and reliability.

  • Experience with carpentry and minor building repairs.

  • Ability to operate floor scrubbers and other maintenance equipment.

Reporting Structure:

Reports to: Building Maintenance Technician and supervises the custodial staff.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.

  • Frequent standing, walking, and bending.

  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors.

  • Schedule Monday – Friday and may include occasional nights/Saturdays.

Compensation and Benefits:

Head Baseball Coach

Saint Bede Academy, Peru, IL., is seeking a Varsity Baseball Coach for the IHSA competition season of Spring 2027. 

Essential Responsibilities, including but not solely limited to:

  • Represent Saint Bede Academy and the baseball program in a positive, professional manner. Provide constructive and inspiring leadership of others.

  • Promote a positive culture within the baseball program and school community, including strong student academic achievement, daily student attendance and mentorship regarding how to set and achieve individual and team goals. 

  • Manage and supervise baseball activities, games and practice sessions to promote individual growth in skills, teamwork, discipline, respect and good sportsmanship.

  • Use a variety of differentiated instructional techniques and technology to meet the needs and improve the abilities of ALL student athletes in the sport of baseball. 

  • Demonstrate accountability for oneself, coaching staff and players.

  • Willingness to formulate and conduct a comprehensive off-season training program to include strength and conditioning, skill improvement, and overall elevation as a person, student, and athlete.

  • Plan and implement targeted, rigorous, and consistent in-season practice time.

  • Recruit, provide input, supervise, and evaluate applicable assistant coaches.

  • Be visible and promote/celebrate student success in other facets of the Academy.

  • Articulate, demonstrate, and model the core values of Saint Bede Academy both within the school and outside in the greater Illinois Valley Community.

  • Upkeep of critical records, score reporting, etc.

Knowledge/Skills/Attributes, including but not solely limited to: 

  • Advanced (post high school level) playing and/or coaching experience.

  • Mastery in the knowledge of the sport including current training and playing philosophy trends.

  • Understands and respects the past history of the baseball program and can manage the high expectations that our school community and alumni have for the program.

  • Communicative in nature and willing to collaborate with both internal and external program coaches.

  • Demonstrate adaptability and collaboration.

  • Possess the ability to articulate vision, properly formulate goals and objectives aligned towards the established vision, for both the program and school. 

  • Adhere to SBA/IHSA regulations, expectations, policies, and procedures as to contribute to the quality working order and mission of the school.

  • Ability to appropriately incorporate the spiritual component within the program.

  • Demonstrated ability to inspire, guide, and promote the person, the student, the athlete in that order.

Part-time Abbey Cook

Saint Bede Abbey is seeking a part-time cook to prepare meals for our six on-campus monks and the occasional guest of the monastery. Candidates with home cooking experience are encouraged to apply.

The cook will be responsible for shopping and preparing evening meals Monday through Friday, as well as Sunday breakfast and lunch. Advance preparation of meals may be required for days when the cook is not present.

Responsibilities:

●       Prepare and cook meals in the monastery kitchen

●       Develop weekly meal plans based on the monks’ preferences and dietary needs

●       Shop for groceries and necessary kitchen supplies

●       Clean and sanitize work areas before and after meal preparation

●       Properly package and label meals for later consumption

●       Provide written or verbal instructions for reheating meals

Requirements:

●       High school diploma or GED

●       Previous experience as a cook (professional or home kitchen experience considered)

●       Knowledge of food health, safety, and sanitation regulations

●       Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

●       Excellent time management skills

●       Effective communication skills

Schedule:
This is a part-time position:

●       Monday through Friday: 4:00 PM until after dinner (approximately 6:00–7:00 PM)

●       Sunday: 6:30 AM until after lunch (approximately 1:00–1:30 PM)

Due to the nature of the position, two candidates may be hired to work on a rotating schedule.

Hourly wage will be competitive. The start date for this position is July 1, 2026.
