Full-Time Dorm Caregiver (Dorm Parent)

Saint Bede Academy in Peru, IL, seeks a creative, energetic, mature adult or married couple with an interest in mentoring international and domestic high school students at our college preparatory day and boarding school for the 2025-2026 Academic year (July 1, 2025 - June 30, 2026)

The Residence Life Caregiver reports to the Dean of Residential Programs and resides in the boarding dorms in a 1-bedroom apartment on our boy's dorm floor. Living on-campus is a requirement of this position. They are part of a team that is responsible for building community, developing programs, and enforcing school policy in an atmosphere of care, respect and compassion. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, nurturing, and committed to helping high school students ages 14-19 grow and prosper within the boarding school environment.

Job responsibilities include working with the Residential Life team to:

  • Serve as in loco parentis to ensure that residents are safe, nurtured and supported

  • Create a welcoming, supportive, and respectful living community, while ensuring that boarding school policies are communicated and followed

  • Encourage and support student leadership opportunities and participation in community service events

  • Support and celebrate the ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds of the boarding students

  • Interpret, enforce and review policies and procedures that relate to student conduct concerns

  • Provide transportation to students for school events and activities in school vehicles

  • Help students navigate life as a boarding student as it relates to personal well-being, academics, and environment

  • Upon employment: successful completion of criminal offender record information and sexual offender registry information checks

  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license and high school diploma or equivalent, preference for applicants with a Bachelor's Degree. If Residence Life Coordinators are unmarried and live in the dorms, they cannot have friends or children reside with them. Boarding school or Residence Life experience is preferred. Residence Life Coordinators are expected to be on-duty on a rotating schedule, as well as attend weekly staff meetings. Due to the nature of the role and the school calendar there are times that additional days/hours will be needed.

*Coordinators are considered “on-call” during overnight hours in case of student emergencies.

Stipend: 

$15,000/year + free housing & utilities in 1-bedroom apartment on 3rd floor of St. Scholastica Dorm.

Start Date

July 1, 2025

Schedule:

Make sure students are awake and ready for school each morning by 7:40 AM.

On-Duty every other weeknight from 3pm-11pm – must be back by 11pm for overnight “on call” duty on nights off.

On-Duty every other weekend – free to leave campus on weekends off.

Holidays most likely will require more on-duty hours/days.

Dorms closed for 2-week Christmas break.

Custodian

St. Bede Academy has an immediate opening for a full-time custodian to work in cooperation with other employees of the facility to maintain a clean, sanitary, safe environment in the school and public spaces.  Responsible for the cleanliness of gymnasium, classrooms, hallways, offices, stairwells and restrooms.

Afternoon/Evening Shift: M-F 3 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.

Qualifications/Skills/Requirements:

This full-time position requires tact, sensitivity and professionalism at all times.  Seeking a dependable, reliable, hardworking individual with a good attitude and work ethic.

•        Prior experience is a plus.

•        Physical ability to frequently lift, push and pull up to 50 lbs. and bend reach and kneel as necessary to perform normal job duties.

•        Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity and ability to work effectively with residents and personnel. 

Duties/Responsibilities:

Responsible for tasks, including but not limited to the following:

•        Empty trash cans, clean whiteboards and sanitize surfaces

•        Sweep, scrub, mop floors

•        Vacuum carpets, rugs, draperies and blinds

•        Dust and polish woodwork and furniture

•        Clean sinks, tubs, showers and kitchens

•        Wash windows and glass surfaces as scheduled

•        Operation of mechanized cleaning equipment and materials in a safe and sanitary condition

•        Knowledge of cleaning and sanitation products, techniques and methods  Preform light maintenance functions as directed
