Dean of Residential Program

Department: Administrative

Reports To: Superintendent

FLSA Status: Exempt

SUMMARY

Execute and refine the strategy and direction for the growth of the boarding student population at St. Bede Academy while meeting objectives for student diversity, selectivity and revenue contribution. This will be accomplished by performing the following duties personally or in conjunction with support staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Develop and execute sound goals and objectives, both short and long range, including strategic plans for their achievement.

  • Identify, develop and maintain partnerships with organizations that desire and have the ability to place students from their country or region at the Academy, placing a priority with organizations that are compatible with St. Bede’s values.

  • Communicate and meet with high potential, prospective partners and students to present the Academy’s capabilities aimed at cultivating additional applicants to the resident program.

  • Create and assist in refining marketing and sales tools such as ads, websites, literature, and other publications that communicate the Academy’s value proposition that resonates with prospective resident program applicants.

  • Organize, create and maintain a database of present, past and potential resident students including camp participants and partners in order to communicate and market the Academy effectively using modern IT tools.

  • Provide ongoing direction and guidance to Academy staff with regards to the market for the Academy’s residence program.

  • Acts as coordinating liaison between the Resident Program and other functional departments at the Academy to resolve problems with and/or maximize value and student retention/satisfaction.

  • Monitors and evaluates the activities of schools that are potential alternatives to St. Bede.

  • Organize and represent the Academy at school fairs and conferences.

  • Prepare monthly report forecasting likely prospective applicants as well as the status of additional opportunities under development.

  • Prepare budgets as required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Academy’s policies and applicable laws. Complete responsibilities include assigning and approving work, establishing and monitoring performance standards, and recommending employees for promotion. Initially this position will not have direct supervisory responsibility other than what is provided by support staff.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) from a four-year college or university; preferably in the area of marketing/human relations or ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and sales experience.

INDEPENDENT DECISION MAKING

Ability to operate at a “High” Decision-making level using a well-defined process to structure independent decisions. Evaluates the risks associated with each alternative before making an independent decision. Considers both the direct and indirect effects of the decision. Can satisfactorily explain the rationale and justification for the decision with others.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to inquiries from prospective students. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to Academy Boards, staff, public groups, and/or principals and management of partner organizations.

TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS

Willingness to travel when doing so creates the greatest opportunity for successfully accomplishing essential duties and responsibilities as described.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Position:  Principal/Academic Dean

Type of employment:  Permanent full  time administrative position

Grades level:   Secondary

Salary/Benefits:  To be negotiated.  Compensation and benefit package can be tailored to the needs of the successful candidate and will be highly competitive locally.

Duties:  Supervise the delivery of the St. Bede Academy curriculum to co-operating school(s) in China.

Qualifications:  Must be eligible for an administrative endorsement.  Possess a strong background in curriculum development, teacher training and teacher evaluation.  Retirees are encouraged to apply.

Additional notes:  Although contract terms are flexible the successful candidate must expect to spend 60 -70% of a 3 year contract in China.
