The end of Ramadan is called Eid al-Fitr, and the fasting will be broken with gatherings and celebrations.

• Reminder to juniors & seniors: College Visit days will not be excused on the following days - Juniors - Day of Recollection, March 9th and SAT, April 16th, Seniors – Retreat, March 25 & 26th. Seniors if you schedule your college placement testing or registration appointment on these days they will need to be rescheduled.

• Freshman, PSAT 8/9 is fast approaching. Please practice using the Bluebook app so you are familiar with it on test day.  Don’t waste valuable testing time because you don’t know how to use the testing app. See Ms. Bernabei BEFORE test day if you need help.

• It was a good night at Sterling for the St. Bede track teams. Lily Bosnich won the Long Jump and was second in the 60meters, 60 meter hurdles, and 200 meters. Maggie Arkins won the 800 meter run, Emerald De La Torre was 3rd in the 60 meters and part of the 4x200 meter relay along with Siearah Shaver, Grace Millington, Ashlyn Ehm that finished 5th. For the guys Marco Rizzi was second in the Long Jump, Greyson Marincic was third in the Long jump and was part of the 5th place 4x200 meter relay along with Sean Brayton, Willy Sramek, and Jack Maschmann.

• If you’re interested in joining Esports and playing Apex Legends, Call of Duty, and/or Rocket League, we need to put together a roster by March 11 (Monday).  Let Mr. Fess know asap.

Application and materials due March 22nd to Ms. Bernabei.   This scholarship offers a $5,000 award and a paid summer internship with the possibility of full time employment after college graduation. Up to 4 students will be selected.  This award is renewable for up to five years.  See your email or the scholarship list. The Michael J. Lyons Scholarship is due April 1st to Ms. Bernabei. Both of these scholarships are only available to SBA students. There are a lot of scholarship deadlines approaching fast!  Check the scholarship list.

• An IVCC rep will be at St Bede on Wednesday during periods G, H & for a short time after school to meet with all seniors who will be attending next year.  You only need to attend for one period, not both. • Over the weekend, SBA's Scholastic Bowl team competed in the TCC Scholastic Bowl Tournament at Roanoke-Benson High School. The Bruins came out on top with 7 wins and 0 losses to capture the conference title! Your Bruins were led by Bella Hagenbuch who finished 9th and Grayson Marincic finishing in the #1 spot answering more toss-ups than anyone in the tournament both receiving All-Conference honors. Congratulations Bruins!

• No Lenten service this week.  So please give your Lenten class charity donations to your religion teacher.

• If you would like to participate in the edible car contest, make sure to sign up by the end of the day Wednesday.  Mr Fitz has shifted the date of making cars to Thursday after school.  Check classroom for more details.

• Yearbook meeting today with Joelle from HJ Edesign from 1:45-3 If you are coming to the meeting to learn how to do yearbook pages, please email Mrs. Griggs so we know how many people to expect.

• Positoovity dancers for the musical, please meet in the cheerleading room after school to practice.

• The City of LaSalle is looking for summer help in several positions.  Please go online at the City of LaSalle website to fill out an application or stop by city hall.

• Ambassadors: we will have a short one-slide meeting in the fishbowl after school. This was not scheduled on Band, but we need to meet before Shadow Days.

There is always new life trying to emerge in each of us.  Too often we ignore the signs of resurrection and cling to parts of life that have died for us.

• Sally decided to RESCIND her offer to go to turnabout with Jimmy after he started dating her best friend.

• A bag of chips or a drink cost $2.00.  That's 2/3 of what each of us is asked to give each week to our class charity during Lent.

• Ski trip departure on Monday is 8:00 A.M.

• Any Boy interested in playing baseball stop and see Coach Eustice before the end of the week or stop in the weightroom after school Wednesday or Thursday to get onto the Google Classroom and Band Apps.

• Seniors: The James Hardie Building Products Scholarship and Internship is back this year for St. Bede seniors and alumni ONLY! This is a $5,000 award and a paid summer internship with the possibility of full time employment after college graduation for Engineering or Accounting/Finance majors. Up to 4 scholarship/internship opportunities will be offered (depending on the number & quality of applicants). The award is renewable for up to five years based on satisfactory performance. See your email or the SBA scholarship for application and details. Due to Ms. Bernabei on March 22nd.

• Are you looking for service hours? Trinity Catholic Academy in LaSalle is looking for help with teardown for their Trivia Night on February 24. See Mr. Steben or Mr. Davy for details!

• If you are a senior who is not planning to go to college right after graduation you need to apply for the Staff Quick Ready to Work $250 Scholarship.  The money can be used on anything you choose; clothing required for work, gas, pay bills until your first paycheck, etc.  The application can be found on the SBA scholarship list on the counseling website and is due to Ms. Bernabei by April 1st.

• Get into the college of your dreams!  Attending Pre-College Summer programs can help improve your chances of getting into highly selective colleges!! Apply NOW!  See your email for links to search for and apply. 100’s of programs and colleges to choose from.

• First fish fry of the season is tomorrow from 4:30-8 at the Ladd Moose club to support the Saint Bede Lady Bruins softball season!  You can purchase tickets at the door for $13. Come eat dinner and then go support the Lady Bruins Basketball team in their regional championship game at Marquette.

• Yearbook staff planning to work on pages for the yearbook need to attend a training meeting Tuesday from 1:45-3 in Mrs. Griggs classroom.

• Coloring Club today after school in the PSC.

• There will be a meeting for anyone wanting to play Saint Bede Tennis to meet in Mr. Davy's room after school #227. We need a few more good men!!

• Are you a freshman interested in helping guide 8th graders during our upcoming Shadow Days? There will be a brief meeting on Wednesday, 2/14 in the refectory during homeroom with more information.

• Please check your Common App account to make sure your school report and required recommendations have been submitted.  If you need a letter of recommendation from a teacher or your counselor, you need to personally ask them. Do not assume that they will receive an email notification and automatically complete this task without a face-to-face conversation with you. Always send a thank you note.  Letters of recommendation are not easy to write and students should show their gratitude for the time teachers put into this task.

• Yearbook staff: Joelle from HJ Edesign will be here next Tuesday from 1:45-3  for a training on page design.  If you would like to begin working on pages, you need to attend this training.

• SBASG will be selling roses during lunch Tuesday and Wednesday for $3 apiece. Flowers will be delivered on Wednesday. Order early!

• Good luck to our Lady Bruins Basketball Team as they take on Marquette in tonight’s regional showdown at 6:00pm at Marquette High School. We hope to see all SBA students, faculty, and staff fill the Marquette gym wearing green for this thrilling matchup. All gas, no brakes - hum Bruins!

• Over the weekend consider getting some food to put in the Big Blue cart. We can't help everyone, but we can help some, in our area, who are hungry.

• Did you know? Depending on the country Lunar New Year lasts around 2 weeks with different activities and traditions happening throughout. This year the holiday starts this Saturday, Feb 10th, and will end on Feb 24th. Generally, it is a time for family gatherings, good food, and wishes for a prosperous new year. Families visit their relatives and friends to wish them a happy new year and exchange gifts of money given in red envelopes. Red is an important color because it signifies fortune, luck, and vitality.

• Heritage Club members coming to make paper lanterns for Lunar New Year need to arrive to room 204 by 2:50pm on Friday.

• Softball players, please turn in fish fry money and lotto tickets by Monday.  Please check your email for your assigned time for working the fish fry.  A few additional parents are also needed to help.  See Mrs. Griggs if you have questions.

• We have an exciting weekend of athletic events, beginning this afternoon. At 4:30pm, our Wrestlers Hunter Savage, Grady Gillan, and Garrett Connelly will be competing in the IHSA Sectional meet at Dekalb High School. Logan Pineda also advanced but is injured and cannot wrestle. Beginning at 5:30pm, our Boys Sophomore/Varsity Basketball host Henry-Senachwine. Saturday, 2/10/24, beginning at 8am, Boys Freshmen Basketball engages in a B team tournament, hosted at JFK School in Spring Valley. At 9am, our girls' bowlers Aubrey Acuncius and Maddy Fabish compete at the IHSA Girls Bowling Sectional, hosted at Mardi Gras Lanes in Dekalb. At 10am, the Wrestling Sectional continues, also in Dekalb, and at 11am, Boys Basketball plays in a Varsity/Sophomore/Freshman Tri-Header here in Abbot Vincent Gymnasium, 11am Boys Varsity vs DePue, 1pm, Boys Sophomore vs Dwight, and at 2:30pm, Boys Varsity vs Dwight! Then on Monday, wear your SBA Green and let's GREEN WAVE our section for our Girls Varsity Basketball team as they compete in the first round of the IHSA Regional Basketball Tournament at Marquette Academy. Game time is 6pm.
